“Maria is fearless.”
Maria Klawe, winner of our 2014 Women of Vision ABIE Award for Leadership, is fearless in her pursuit of closing the gender gap in technical education. Klawe became the first woman president of Harvey Mudd College in 2006, and since then, the number of female students majoring in computer science has risen from 10 percent to 42 percent.
A renowned computer scientist and scholar herself, Klawe was a close friend of Dr. Anita Borg and served as a founding board chair of the Anita Borg Institute until 2011. Recently, she was named one of the world’s 50 greatest leaders by Fortune Magazine.
This October, we’re looking forward to her conversation with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at our annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.
