Many companies blame the leaky pipeline for the lack of diversity in the tech industry, but few know how to fix this problem. One solution would be to expand the pipeline by redefining what a quality technologist looks like. “Someone who taught themselves to code in a country where technology is slightly outdated will look at a problem from a completely different angle than a Stanford computer science graduate,” explains Austin Belcak, the founder of Cultivated Culture. “That’s not to say that either individual is right or wrong. Instead, the combination of those two minds tackling the same problem is where the magic happens.”
The Anita Borg Institute (ABI) encourages companies to promote diversity and inclusivity through our Top Companies for Women Technologists program. This national program recognizes companies who commit to fighting unconscious bias and create workplaces where women technologists can thrive.
