Expedia’s former CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has been selected to take over Uber amid the company’s gender discrimination scandal. Although Uber did not select a female CEO as some had hoped, many diversity advocates believe that Dara will make an excellent advocate for women in tech. Under Dara’s leadership at Expedia, the company signed the White House’s Equal Pay Pledge, and began reviewing their hiring and promotion processes to ensure they were unbiased.
“It’s about talent acquisition, talent management, retention, and the overall workforce — those are CEO issues whether you’re male or female,” said Elizabeth Ames, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Alliances, and Programs at the Anita Borg Institute. Leaders such as Salesforce’s Marc Benioff and GoDaddy’s Blake Irving, both of whom spoke at past Grace Hopper Celebrations, are perfect examples of leaders dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion within their companies. We hope Uber’s new CEO shares this same dedication and brings about change to Uber’s work culture.
