In 2014, Harvey Mudd College and the Anita Borg Institute (ABI) launched BRAID (Building, Recruiting, And Inclusion for Diversity), a program dedicated to increasing the percentage of women and underrepresented students majoring in computer science. “BRAID is a platform that allows organizations to learn from others about what works in order to create change in their own organization,” says Telle Whitney, CEO and president of ABI. “We are pleased by the continuing and expanding interest in this program.”
We are currently working with 15 universities, and all have committed to a set of approaches to increase diversity within their computer science departments. Each department will also provide data for a research study that will document the progress made over the course of three years. “The results will make a valuable contribution toward understanding and implementing best practices for increasing diversity in computer science and technology,” Telle states.
