News TechLeaders: Power and Influence, at Google Silicon Valley

Today, the Anita Borg Institute is kicking off its newest TechLeaders program, “Power and Influence”, hosted by Google. 80 technical women from 21 companies such as Apple, EBay, Cisco, Google, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Juniper Networks, RedEnvelope.com, Salesforce.com, and Walmart.com, are discussing topics such as organizational awareness, visibility, influence without authority, and negotiation.

The workshop is being led by Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, who has developed her leadership coaching model based on her experience successfully coaching and advancing hundreds of women. Each month, Jo Miller contributes a column on our site, “Ask Jo“, about leadership issues of relevance to the advancement of technical women.

The workshop was kicked off by Alan Eustace, Senior VP Research and Systems Engineering at Google, who is a Trustee of the Anita Borg Institute. Eustace discussed his work with the Anita Borg Institute and his commitment to recruiting, retaining, and advancing women in technology and his learning about the importance of the issue while working with his then colleague, Anita Borg.
