More than 1,500 reviews of nonprofits working on women’s issues were posted during May’s highly successful Women’s Empowerment Campaign at GreatNonprofits.org. The Anita Borg Institute was one of over 350 nonprofits whose visibility was increased by the campaign. And positive reviews posted by the ABI community assured our place on the resulting Top-Rated Women’s Empowerment Nonprofits List. Here are a few highlights from the campaign.
The purpose of the Women’s Empowerment Campaign was to increase visibility of the many and varied organizations doing great work on women’s issues. ABI participated as a partner, encouraging our community members and newsletter subscribers to post reviews of nonprofits focused on women, and to help spread word of the campaign.
ABI also participated in the campaign as a nonprofit, inviting reviews of our own programs and impact. Our reviews came from a great cross-section of our community: software and hardware, industry and academia, sponsors and scholarship recipients. Most had contributed in some way including active volunteers from Grace Hopper 2010 committees, Latinas in Computing, Systers, and other ABI programs.
Our reviewers shared their perspectives on the impact of our work as well as suggestions for expansion and improvement. Many wished for us increased funding in order to expand our work. We invite you to read the full reviews on the GreatNonprofits site and to post your own. Although the campaign has ended, reviews are welcome year-round.
Women’s Empowerment Campaign 2010 was launched by GreatNonprofits and GuideStar in partnership with the Anita Borg Institute and ten other organizations.
