News GOOGLE DONATES GENEROUS GIFT TO ANITA BORG INSTITUTE

ABI Enjoys Solid Growth of Programs and Event Attendance in 2009, Fueled by Donor Support

Palo Alto, CA, February 9, 2010 —The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) announced today that Google has made a very generous gift to the Institute in recognition of ABI’s mission, programs and positive impact on technical women. Through outreach, education, research, awards and its signature program the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing; ABI is dedicated to supporting women in technology and facilitating their personal and professional success.

The support of Google, and all ABI partners and donors, allows us to expand our reach in 2010 and beyond,” said Jody Mahoney, vice president of business development. “With Google’s gift, we will continue to scale our impact on the recruitment, retention and advancement of technical women.”

In 2009, the Anita Borg Institute saw an increase in the number of technical women engaged in its programs. More than 650 guests attended the Anita Borg Women of Vision Awards Banquet, and 1,570 participants from 21 countries attended the 2009 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.

“The Anita Borg Institute achieved substantial growth in our communities and programs in 2009”, said Telle Whitney, President and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute. “With the advent of 2010, ABI will dramatically scale its impact through our work with industry and academia. The Google gift will enable ABI to accelerate our work in changing the culture of technology to increase the number of technical women engaged in the creation of technology.”
