On Day 2 of TechLeaders: Power and Influence, Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, is discussing Resiliency with the participants which involve work-life balance, job satisfaction, and
First, she argues taht we need to go beyond the myth of superwoman. Work and life cannot be separated – rather than balance, integration is key.
One participant says “Your company will not be coming to your funeral – you need to put your health first.” A key question Jo Miller says to ask yourself is “Am I using my time and energy to honor the things that are most important?” This involves determining what are the 3 most important things to you and taking stock of where you are actually spending your time – those things thare are non-negotiable to you and need to be given your time and energy. Miller says that often, women enter a new phase of life but do not readjust their mindset of balance for what is most important to them.
One technical discussed that when she was younger, she took to heart that she could have it “all”, but that the “all” was crushing her – she found that this is exercise was that you can repeat it over time to free yourself from the continuous adding on of conflicting priorities.
A key piece of resiliency, Miller says, is giving yourself permission to not do some things anymore.
