PALO ALTO, Calif., August 23, 2006 – The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) has announced that Ijeoma Terese Ihenachor, Claudia Bauzer Medeiros and Suriya Mayandi Thevar, representing Nigeria, Brazil and India respectively, have been granted ABI’s first Change Agent Scholarships in recognition of their technical leadership and advocacy for women in technology. more

PALO ALTO, Calif., August 15, 2006 – The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) has announced that a total of 38 organizations, including corporate sponsors and academic underwriters, will provide financial backing for the 6th Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference to be held October 4-7, 2006, in San Diego, California. Produced jointly by ABI and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Grace Hopper Celebration is the world’s largest technical conference for women in the field of computer science. more

“Feedback And Dynamics In Nature” Workshop
A One Day Workshop on Quantitative Methods for Investigating the role of feedback and dynamics in a variety of biological, ecological, geological, and physical systems. This workshop will focus on this emerging field and will include talks from researchers from diverse backgrounds including biology, physics, ecology, geology, engineering, and computer science. The discussions will highlight recent, interdisciplinary successes in this area and will target new opportunities for progress through interaction and convergence among these fields of study. Students, post-docs, faculty and industry professionals interested in this new and exciting field are encouraged to attend. more

We are pleased to welcome Deanna Kosaraju who is a Program Manager at the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. She has a B.A. Degree magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley in Gender & Women’s Studies. Prior to returning to school, Deanna has over 13 years experience in high-tech including Support Manager for Platinum Software, Consulting Manager for Baysys Consulting Group where she implemented ERP systems for Fortune 1000 companies in Silicon Valley. She most recently was Vice President of Customer Success for Modulus Software, an online accounting company and Sr. Product Marketing Manager for Alphablox acquired by IBM. Deanna is married and has 3 fabulous kids.

We are pleased to welcome Caroline Simard who is a Research Assistant at the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology. A social scientist by training, she holds a PhD in Communication Studies from Stanford University and an MA from Rutgers University. Her graduate research focused on organizational behavior, high-technology regions, knowledge networks, and new media. As a researcher, she is committed to bridging theory and practice and applying research insights and tools to create social change. Before joining ABI, Caroline was a Researcher at the Stanford Graduate School of Business’ Center for Social Innovation, where she was involved with a large-scale study of nonprofit organizations. She also was a Program Director for the Center for Social Innovation’s management and leadership executive programs for nonprofit leaders. Before attending graduate school, she was Director of Communications for the Conference Office at the University of Montreal (Canada), where she was involved with the design and execution of large academic conferences.
