News ANITA BORG INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEMBER

Josephine Cheng, IBM Fellow and Vice President of IBM Research – Almaden, Joins Board

PALO ALTO, Calif. — July 19, 2010—The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) announced today the addition of Josephine Cheng, IBM Fellow and Vice President of IBM Research – Almaden to the Anita Borg Institute Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is a distinguished group of thought leaders from leading technology companies and academic institutions with passion and commitment to women having a seat in creating technology.

Josephine M. Cheng is an IBM Fellow and Vice President of IBM Research – Almaden in San Jose, California where she oversees scientists and engineers doing exploratory and applied research in areas including: nanotechnology, materials science, storage systems, data management, web technologies, workplace practices and user interfaces.  Josephine Cheng has been awarded 28 patents for her inventions.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
