WOMEN OF VISION AWARDS

Innovation recognizes a leading technical woman who has contributed significantly to technology innovation. The innovation might be creating unusual and important technology or approaching developing technology in a significantly new and innovative way, such as by bringing diverse people and experiences together in the technology creation process.  The Women of Vision award for Innovation has recognized women in industry and academia who have significantly impacted technology in areas such as network interconnection and security, robotics, speech to speech translation, natural language generation and computer displays.

Social Impact recognizes a leading technical woman who has developed or applied technology that has significantly impacted society and/or the community. Recipients of this award are creating or employing technologies that are changing our world in positive ways.  Winners of this award have founded organizations to support the increase of women in technology, made technology accessible to children in third world countries, led government programs to increase representation of women and  underrepresented minorities in technology, advised industry and government on wiretapping and security policy, and created programs to solve problems for community service and education initiatives.

Leadership recognizes a leading technical woman who has led an important technology development or innovation, made a significant contribution to the technology industry, and inspires others.  Women recognized have included the first female fellow at a major technology company, the developer of the first Embodied Conversational Agent who brought together human interaction and computational design, a lawyer who helped create the Mozilla Foundation, a technologist who has been a leader in industry, academia, and government, and the creator of technology that enables the visually disabled to use computers.

Please note that neither the members of the Board of Trustees nor any member of the staff of the Anita Borg Institute are eligible for nomination.

TOP COMPANY FOR TECHNICAL WOMEN AWARD

The Anita Borg Top Company for Technical Women Award recognizes an organization that has demonstrated measurable results in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women at all levels. Grounded in organizational research and based on quantitative data, the award measures the current representation of technical women as well as improvement in women’s representation over time.
