Savvy Geek Chix: Weathering the Economic Storm
ABI’s inaugural Savvy Geek Chix event “Weathering the Economic Storm” addressed how technical women could effectively manage their careers in a tough economic climate. The evening attracted over a 100 participants from industry, academia and goverment. Savvy Geek Chix featured networking, a job board, a panel on job retention/hunting strategies and ABI’s highly rated resume clinic (based on the 2008 Grace Hopper Celebration session). Participants’ resumes were reviewed by recruiters from leading high tech companies. Savvy Geek Chix participants were welcomed by Deanna Kosaraju, VP of Programs at the Anita Borg Institute.
The “Strategies for Survival in the Current Economy” panel focused on:
- Strategies for retaining your job
- How to effectively utilize your network to find a job
- Key steps to take before a potential layoff
- What to do immediately after a layoff
- Learn the things not to do when you’re laid off
The panel was moderated by Jerri Barrett, Director of Marketing at the Anita Borg Institute. Panelist were:
