Programs: Grace Hopper Celebration

For complete details about the next conference, please visit the Grace Hopper Celebration website.
Co-founded by Dr. Anita Borg and Dr. Telle Whitney in 1994 and inspired by the legacy of Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) of Women in Computing is a conference designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. Presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industrial, academic and government communities. Leading researchers present their current work, while special sessions focus on the role of women in today’s technology fields, including computer science, information technology, research and engineering.
Past conferences have resulted in collaborative proposals, networking, mentoring, and increased visibility for the contributions of women in computing.
For sponsors it has become a premier event to recruit new talent, promote their organization and inspire their workforce.
There are many ways you can get involved, including:
- Present your work at the conference
- Submit a proposal for a session
- Help organize the conference by serving on a committee
- Encourage your school or company to become a sponsor
To learn more about the impact of GHC on the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women please read the 2010 Grace Hopper Impact and Evaluation Report.
Inspired by GHC
GHC has inspired regional conferences similar in nature. In 2009, the Grace Hopper Regional Consortium was created to support existing regionals and create new conferences to broaden the participation of women in computing. Regional programs feature highly successful technical women’s work and provide opportunities for networking. Research indicates that such events provide attendees with access to role models, and solidifies their career goals.
The first regional was held in 2004:
- INWIC Celebration of Women in Computing, Indiana, United States
GHC also inspired a conference ‘over the pond’ called the Hopper Colloquia!
Please visit the Grace Hopper Regional Consortium page to find out the dates for the next regional.
