Senior TechLeaders: “Managing Change”

This workshop focused on building critical skills for success in leadership roles and provides a venue where women leaders can meet to share ideas, tactics, and strategies while learning together. Participants were given an opportunity to expand and deepen relationships with other senior women in the technical community and work on elements of innovation enablers and organizational change.

This one-day workshop focused on building and sustaining change. It showcased the work of four women in organizations in making positive impact for technical women and provided an opportunity for participants to explore and share insights and opportunities for impacting their own organizations.

This workshop brought together powerful women exercising major influence on the technology community from industry, government and academia. The focus of this workshop was on understanding women and leadership. Each participant looked at her own personal leadership and to determine how to make it even more effective. Participants left with greater self-awareness, new ideas, and information on steps they could take to advance their leadership performance to the next level.

In partnership with the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics the 2005 East Coast Senior Women Leadership Workshop brought together powerful women exercising major influence on the technology community in areas such as computer and computational science and applied mathematics from industry, government and academia. The workshop focused on building critical skills for success in leadership roles and provided a venue where women leaders could meet to share ideas, tactics, strategies and learn together. Moreover, it provided an opportunity to expand and deepen relationships with other senior women in the technical community.
Senior TechLeaders: “Grace Hopper Leadership Summit”

A Senior Women Leadership Summit was held the day before the Grace Hopper Celebration. Facilitated by Linda Alepin, CEO of the leadership consulting firm Center for New Futures, women created individual visions, worked on steps to fulfill their visions, and networked with each other. There were 83 attendees, 46% from industry and 36% from academia.
TechLeaders: “Leadership Initiative Pilot Program”

In January of 2004 The Anita Borg Institute and IPAM (Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics at UCLA) collaborated on a pilot leadership workshop for women holding senior positions in academia, industry, and government. Participants received validation, ideas, experiences and strategies, perspective, suggestions, inspiration, and reassurance. In addition, experts in areas important to attendees provided guidance about important leadership skills.
There were 48 attendees, 67% from academia and 21% from industry. Results from the breakout sessions which include challenges and best practices are posted and an article was written by the facilitator, Susan Owicki, in the Spiral Online Newsletter. The overwhelming response was extraordinarily positive.
