Who We Are: Shanna-Shaye Forbes

Graduate student, UC Berkeley

My name is Shanna-Shaye Forbes and I am a third year graduate student at the University of California Berkeley. I received my Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering Concentration) from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2007, and my masters degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California Berkeley in May 2009.

I am interested in real-time scheduling, operating systems, concurrent and distributed systems, as well as embedded systems. In my spare time I enjoy jogging, reading, watching movies, as well as watching HGTV. I enjoy seeing the look on children’s faces when they understand something new, and decide they would like to share their new found knowledge with everyone they meet. I also find it very rewarding to participate in outreach activities that introduce young women and minorities to science and engineering. In particular, it brings back fond memories of my participation in math and science club in middle school, as well as my participation in a high school enrichment program in Houston TX. I had the wonderful chance to meet women who chose to peruse mathematics as a career through the math and science club and my participation in both programs introduced me to career paths I did not know existed.
