Who We Are: Kathy Gee

IT Project Specialist

Kathy GeeMy birth country is Malaysia.  I followed my parents to Japan and we stayed there for 4 plus years.  Later, we moved to the Washington D.C./Virginia area for another 4 years.  Ultimately, I ended up in San Francisco, where my heart has remained.

While in the Bay Area, most of my studies have been computer related which qualified me for an Information Technology position with Hewlett-Packard Company.  My interest and passion for working in an IT environment has not strayed since.  When Agilent Technologies spun-off from HP in 1999, I became a technical member of Agilent IT in the Network and Communications Group providing intranet web development support and information strategy solutions for the group’s global teams.  Coming from an enterprise environment to a “small business-like” environment at Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, the challenges as the IT Project Specialist are just as demanding and the rewards more visibly obvious.

After experiencing my first Grace Hopper Celebration (2007) in Orlando, Florida, I am awed by the impact that this institute has made to women in technology.  The different programs that are available through ABIWT are unparalleled.  The dedication by all (staff and volunteers alike) is the key to the success of this institute and I’m happy to be a part of it.
