Who We Are: Denise Gammal

Director of Corporate Partnerships

Denise Gammal is building out a new role designed to develop a partner ecosystem that meets the needs of the Anita Borg Institute’s closest industry partners and furthers the contribution of technical women to their enterprises while more deeply engaging in ABI’s mission to improve the recruitment, retention and advancement of women in technology and engineering.

As part of this role, Denise leads our efforts supporting TechWomen, a program that pairs technical women from the Middle East and North Africa with their counterparts at leading technology companies in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area for a project-based mentorship. The program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs implemented in partnership with the Institute of International Education.

Prior to joining the Anita Borg Institute, Denise served as vice president for strategy and organizational learning at United Way of the Bay Area where she worked on research and program collaborations to help families break the cycle of poverty.  She has also worked at Stanford Graduate School of Business where she directed a major research project on nonprofit organization and development. Denise is passionate about knowledge management and learning – how as teams and organizations we can capture, evaluate, and share best practices and continuously improve our work.

Denise holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a PhD in social and political sciences from Cambridge University.

Who am I?

I enjoy volunteering for my two sons’ elementary school, Cub Scouts, Little League and other activities. I am a quilt maker, rosemaling artist, golfer and photographer and am happiest beach combing, hiking, and exploring our local, state and national parks with my family.
