Ph.D Candidate, University of Illinois at Chicago
Anushka Anand is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Her research interest is in visual analytics which blends data mining and information visualization. Her research investigates identifying patterns and anomalies in high-dimensional data by leveraging visual features in novel ways. She was elected and served as President of the Computer Science Graduate Student Association at UIC and Secretary for the Graduate Student government at UIC for the 2009-2011 academic years. Also, she created a Women in CS group at UIC to build a community for students and faculty through the organization of socials, outreach events and teams from UIC to go to the Grace Hopper Conference since 2005. Apart from receiving UIC Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership awards in 2010 and 2011 she was one of the few graduate student 50 For the Future awardees selected by the Illinois Technology Foundation in September 2011 as a student who pursues innovation through technology.
Currently, she serves as the graduate student representative on the Education Subcommittee of the Information Technology Governance Council at UIC and as Chair of the professional Chicago Chapter of the ACM.
